The Secession Talks ist eine Sammlung von Gesprächen zu Ausstellungen, die seit 1998 von der Gesellschaft der Freunde der Wiener Secession veranstaltet werden. Auf über 600 Seiten stehen sich Kunstschaffende, KuratorInnen und AutorInnen im Dialog gegenüber. In gesammelter Form und als Buch herausgegeben, bilden diese Gespräche eine nahtlose Rückschau der Aktivitäten und des Austauschs in diesem traditionsreichen Ausstellungshaus.
Alle Dialogpartner sind am Buchrücken aufgelistet. Die Gestaltung des Covers und der rote Buchschnitt knüpfen an eine emblematische interventionistische Arbeit von Marcus Geiger an, der die gesamte Fassade der Secession 1998 anlässlich seiner Einzelausstellung rot bemalt hat.
Der Band wurde als eines der schönsten Bücher Österreichs 2013 ausgezeichnet.
The Secession Talks is a collection of exhibition talks organised by the Friends of the Secession since 1998, with artists, curators and writers engaging in a dialogue spanning more than 600 pages. Published as a book, the collected texts provide an exhaustive synopsis of the activities and exchange of ideas taking place at this exhibition venue steeped in tradition.
While the names of all the participants in the talks are displayed on the spine, the cover design and red edge of the book make reference to an emblematic intervention by Marcus Geiger who, on the occasion of his 1998 solo exhibition, had the entire façade of the Secession painted red.
In 2013 the publication received an award as one of Austria’s most beautifully designed books.
